Why in the world isn’t everyone making Hot Aperol!? This is seriously my new favourite hot winter beverage. The perfectly sweet, bitter, and familiar combination of Aperol, Prosecco, and Orange, plus the warming spices that we all love over the holidays. What’s not to love?
Ingredients
Servings: 4
2 cups Prosecco (see notes)
1 cup Aperol
1 cup Apple juice
4 Orange slices
1 cinnamon stick (plus 4 more for garnish)
Optional: additional mulling spices, like cloves or star anise)
Directions
Pour Aperol, Prosecco, and apple juice into a saucepan along with orange slices, cinnamon stick, and other spices if using. Heat until it’s just about boiling and then remove from heat (so that you don’t boil off the alcohol). Pour into glass mugs, add one orange slice per mug, garnish with a cinnamon stick, and ENJOY!
Notes
After you heat it up, the Prosecco will quickly lose its bubbles! You can still have a glass with a bit of fizz if you serve it right away, but it will quickly become flat. Prosecco is still what I recommend because of its structure and flavour profile, but if you would rather use a still wine, choose a dry (not sweet) white with high acidity, like a dry Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris/Grigio, or Albariño!
Hi There!
I’m hosting our family’s Christmas Eve party. Would this recipe work in a large batch, maybe in a slow cooker? I’m guessing we will have roughly 15 people. Thanks in advance for your advice.
