For episode 4 of my last minute holiday appetizer mini-series, we have the ultimate nostalgic-meets-fancy appetizer: PB & J Baked Brie.

With its gooey melted Brie, warm peanut butter, and sweet jam, it’s the kind of dish that feels indulgent but is ridiculously easy to make. Whether you’re hosting a casual get-together or need a quick, crowd-pleasing appy for Christmas or New Years, this recipe is guaranteed to impress (or weird people out - regardless, it’s a conversation starter!). The best part? It’s totally customizable—choose your favourite jam, peanut butter, and dippers, and make it your own!

What to Pair?

I highly recommend pairing this baked Brie with a dry Lambrusco! This sparkling red wine from Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region is known for its lively bubbles, bright berry flavors, and refreshing acidity. Lambrusco’s crisp, fizzy nature and light body make it an incredible food wine. It’s a classic match for charcuterie and rich cheeses, but I’m so glad I stepped outside the box to try it with this delish PB&J baked Brie!

Why the Pairing Works

Lambrusco is like the jam of the wine world—but not in the "jammy" wine sense (which usually describes overly ripe, sweet wines and isn’t a compliment). Think about when you eat a piece of toast slathered with peanut butter, and your mouth feels dry and sticky—you need something to balance it out. That’s where jam comes in, and Lambrusco works the same magic. Its bright acidity and fizzy bubbles cut through the rich peanut butter and gooey cheese, refreshing your palate with every sip. Plus, its vibrant berry flavors match the jam’s sweetness, creating a playful, perfectly balanced pairing that takes nostalgic PB&J to the next level!

My Recommendations

I paired this with the Corte Manzini Bolla Rossa Lambrusco Secco — An approachable, dry and vibrant Lambrusco with flavours of ripe red berries, black cherry, blackberry, and violets. If you can’t buy this one where you are, here are some great alternatives!

  • If you’re in Canada, one of my absolute favourites is the Tomato Wheels Lambrusco!

  • This Fattoria Moretto Lambrusco is a great option if you can buy it where you are! (this is a US link).

  • Lini 910 is an affordable and approachable classic that is widely avaiable

Alternative Pairings

Wine:

  • A slightly sweet Riesling or Gewürztraminer for a floral-fruity contrast.

  • A fruity Zinfandel or Beaujolais for their light body and berry-forward notes.

Beer:

  • A fruity Lambic (like raspberry or cherry) to match the jam’s sweetness.

  • A crisp Saison or wheat beer for a refreshing balance.

Cocktail:

  • A Kir Royale (sparkling wine with a splash of cassis) for a berry-focused bubbly bevvy.

  • A peanut butter whiskey sour (I don’t have a recipe, but this sounds cool and would match the PB flavours)

Non-Alcoholic:

  • Sparkling grape juice for a fruity fizz.

  • A chilled hibiscus tea for its tart berry-like profile.
